Award-Winning Filmmaker Releases New Video on Jeremiah

In an effort to highlight the successes of programs and policies that build a cycle of opportunity for families, filmmaker Steve Liss, in collaboration with Ascend at the Aspen Institute, has created two documentary short films featuring promising two-generation programs.

“Unless people believe that things really can improve, they will not be motivated to work toward change,” says Liss of his decision to capture the leadership of Gloria Perez, President & CEO of Jeremiah Program, and Henry Wilde, Acelero Learning Co-Founder & Chief Operating Officer and a national board member of Jeremiah Program.

“Steve’s work is nothing short of stunning,” says Perez. “We are grateful he took the time to understand and capture the successes of our organization.”

Jeremiah Graduate Ashley DuBose Advances on “The Voice”

Congratulations to recent Jeremiah Program graduate Ashley DuBose who has made it through the first round—”the blinds”—on “The Voice,”  the blockbuster vocal competition show in its fifth season on NBC. During the televised episode on October 1, Ashley was selected by all four celebrity coaches: Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera, CeeLo Green and Blake Shelton.

The show’s format features four stages of competition: the blind auditions, the battle rounds, the knockouts and, finally, the live performance shows. During the blind auditions, the decisions from the musician coaches are based solely on voice and not on looks. The coaches hear the artists perform, but they don’t get to see them – thanks to rotating chairs. If a coach is impressed by the artist’s voice, she/he pushes a button to select the artist for her/his team. At this point, the coach’s chair will swivel so that he/she can face the artist he/she has selected. If more than one coach pushes his/her button, the power then shifts to the artists to choose which coach they want to work with. If no coach pushes his/her button, the artist is eliminated from the competition.

Ashley chose Adam Levine with whom she now will work with over the next few weeks before the battle rounds when the coaches pit two of their own team members against each other to sing the same song together in front of a studio audience.
