At Jeremiah Program we have volunteer support from individuals, but also from corporations, groups and organizations. This month we would like to highlight one of our outstanding corporate partners, Ryan Companies.
We sat down with our contacts at Ryan Co, Gretchen Preston and Brian Brooke to learn more about how they got involved and why they are passionate about partnering with Jeremiah Program. Check it out:
How did you hear about Jeremiah Program?
Ryan Companies has been involved with Jeremiah for quite some time. Our National President, Jeff Smith, was on the Jeremiah board in Minneapolis. In 2015, we had the opportunity to attend the groundbreaking event for the Moody campus located in Austin and knew then that we wanted to build on the relationship locally.
How long have you been volunteering at Jeremiah Program?
Five years here in Austin, but really stepped up our game in the past year and a half! What do you love most about volunteering at Jeremiah Program? Working on something that truly makes a difference in people’s lives. The program really works, and it’s scalable, and our efforts matter. On top of that, all the volunteers and Jeremiah folks are passionate, kind and a joy to work with.
Please share a favorite memory/funny story while volunteering.
Last summer, we hosted a Fun in the Sun Day at the campus. We brought bubble wands and soccer balls to play with the kids along with a snow cone truck. It was so fun to see how excited the kids got about the snow cones.
Please share a fun fact about you. (They got creative on this one!)
Can you guess the lie?
2 Truths and a Lie (Brian)
1. I hold a state fishing record.
2. I play three instruments.
3. I can’t touch my shoulders.
2 Truths and a Lie (Gretchen)
1. I’ve skied in the Swiss Alps
2. I’ve hiked in the Amazon Jungle
3. I’ve been halibut fishing in Alaska
Lies: Brian #1, and Gretchen #2.
Thanks again to Brian, Gretchen and all the folks at Ryan Companies for supporting Jeremiah Program.
