Over the past 15 years, Jeremiah Program has grown to be one of the nation’s leading experts on two-generation strategies to reduce poverty. Using a holistic approach that combines safe and affordable housing, support for career-track education, life skills training, and quality early childhood education, Jeremiah has demonstrated amazing returns on investment in determined single young mothers and their children.
This year, with recently announced funding from Ascend at the Aspen Institute, Jeremiah Program will explore strategies for sustaining and scaling Jeremiah’s two-generation model to new locations nationwide. Working with a consortium of partners, Jeremiah Program will design and test a pilot, as well as develop an accompanying business plan to serve as a tool for communities interested in Jeremiah’s innovative approach.
President & CEO Gloria Perez currently is a 2012-2013 Ascend Fellow at the Aspen Institute, a policy program and hub for breakthrough ideas and proven strategies that move parents, especially women, and their children beyond poverty toward educational success and economic security.
