Jeremiah Program Breaks Ground on Austin Campus

Community leaders will break ground on a new campus to serve 35 low-income families.

Austin, TX

There are more than 44,000 female-headed households living in poverty in the Austin area, a statistic that is driving Jeremiah Program’s work to build a campus to serve 39 families with the holistic assistance they need to move to a life of prosperity.

On November 18, 2015, Jeremiah will break ground on a campus adjacent to the four duplexes the organization built in 2013 with Guadalupe Neighborhood Development Corporation (GNDC). This new 49,865-square foot building in the Guadalupe-Saldana Net-Zero Subdivision in East Austin will include 35 two-bedroom apartments, an on-site accredited five-classroom Child Development Center for up to 60 children, two covered playground areas, empowerment and life skills classrooms, gathering spaces, and staff offices.

Jeremiah Program has raised $6.6 million to meet initial construction estimates and an additional $1.5 million for operating reserve. The building will be home to 35 single mothers (and their preschool age children) who have successfully completed Jeremiah’s signature “Embracing Your Power: Choosing to Change” empowerment training and are enrolled in a post-secondary degree program.
