Sizeable Gift Will Bolster Organization’s Work to Support Two-Generation Model of Economic Mobility for Single Mothers and their Children

MINNEAPOLIS (December 6, 2023)—In a significant stride toward fostering transformative change, Jeremiah Program (JP), a national nonprofit with one of the most successful strategies for helping single mothers and their children overcome the barriers that sustain generational poverty, today announced a generous donation from Yield Giving, MacKenzie Scott’s philanthropic initiative.

“We are deeply committed to the 2,000 moms and kids we are actively supporting,” said Chastity Lord, President and CEO, Jeremiah Program. “We also feel an outsized responsibility to amplify our learning to help shift the conditions for the single moms experiencing poverty that we will never meet. The gift from MacKenzie Scott will aid in our being able to do this system-change work as we continue looking to expand our impact.”

JP is a national thought leader on generational poverty and the systemic barriers facing single-parent families. The organization’s success lies in its commitment to meeting the moment, addressing structural inequities, and following the leadership of women most proximate to the issues of early childhood education, college access, income inequality and affordable housing. This commitment requires that we Do. Foster. Influence.:

  • Do what JP does best: Leverage long- and short-term data insights to refine and strengthen our five-pillar offerings for single mothers and their children. JP allows families to dream what is possible when moms have the tools and agency to author their own lives.
  • Foster a sustainable alumni network: Build an alumni network to support the social currency, power, and influence of JP families as they move through the various chapters of economic mobility.
  • Influence systems and public policy: Explore ways that JP can build partnerships through research, advocacy, and narrative change by sharing the stories and insights of current JP families and JP alumni. JP aims to reshape systems and policies that perpetuate socioeconomic disparities.
