We Believe All Moms Matter

JP President and CEO Chastity Lord describes JP’s commitment to curating a world in which moms can choose both themselves and their children.

JP envisions a world where poverty is no longer feminized; where race is not divorced from gender; where career and financial opportunities are not gentrified; and where women who experience poverty have a seat at the table to influence solutions for their families and their community.

It is no secret that parents hold primary influence in their children’s lives. Parents guide not only what their children eat but also how they dream. The same is true for JP moms, and we believe they are powerful allies in creating pathways for their children’s academic success. Our country wins when a JP mom is given the opportunity to bet on herself and her child, achieving success two generations at a time.

JP sits at an incredible nexus of so many issues we are navigating as a country — supporting 100% women, 100% single moms experiencing poverty, 100% parents in pursuit of college degrees, and 80% BIPOC. The last few years have laid bare the systemic inequities low-income single moms face in pursuing economic mobility for themselves and their children.

Disrupting generational poverty will require proof points both in the classroom and at the breakfast table. JP’s commitment to higher education reflects what history has taught us: Education is and has been the most consistent lever for generational economic mobility. A JP mom is a living proof point within her home, modeling that she can be a great mom and simultaneously bet on her herself and her children’s future. A 2007 study by Paul Attewell and David Lavin shows that parents’ education levels have a direct impact on their children’s academic success.

We are committed to curating a world that allows JP moms to choose both themselves and their children. Every day, we are proud to celebrate moms pursuing their higher education and career goals — who understand they are great moms and who can also love, nurture, and influence their kids’ dreams. Every day should be Mother’s Day for these awesome women! To our JP moms and to all mother figures in the lives of children, we celebrate you. We believe all moms matter.
