BALTIMORE (January 5, 2023)—Danielle Staton has been named the executive director of the newly launched Baltimore campus of Jeremiah Program (JP)—a national nonprofit with one of the most successful strategies for disrupting generational poverty and investing in economic mobility among single mothers and their children.
Staton has spent her professional career dedicated to expanding equity and access to underserved communities in educational spaces. Over the last 15 years, she has served in several capacities that align with the two-generation model of the Jeremiah Program including Head Start and early childhood education programming, family and community engagement, college access, and workforce development. She most recently served as the founding Senior Director of Program with iMentor Baltimore, leading the strategy and implementation of iMentor’s school-based programming in the organization’s newest region. In 2017 she was one of three winners of the Inaugural Howard County ChangeMaker Challenge for her idea “College Readiness Communities,” focused on creating a community of support for high school students planning to be the first in their families to attend college. Staton has a BA degree in Psychology and Anthropology from Boston University and a Master of Science in Education from the Education, Culture, and Society program at the University of Pennsylvania.
“Danielle is a dedicated professional committed to the city of Baltimore with a proven record for implementing and scaling successful programs that center families as experts of their lives,” said Chastity Lord, President and CEO, Jeremiah Program. “A fellow first-generation college student and single mother, Danielle’s lived experiences coupled with her professional background is the perfect marriage to empower and support JP Moms in Baltimore. We’re thrilled to welcome her to JP as we get deeper engrained in the Baltimore community.”
In the executive director role, Staton will ensure the Baltimore campus is reflective the unique opportunities of the city and serve as a champion for JP’s two-generation mission. She is responsible for achieving the annual fundraising goals of the campus, growing strong community partnerships, working closely with a local community board of trustees to build community engagement, and recruiting, developing and managing a team that plans for a thriving family experience.
“I wholeheartedly believe in the two-generation approach because I’m a product of it,” said Staton. “As a single mom it can be lonely at times, having that circle is so important to help you succeed. I’m excited to start this new chapter at Jeremiah Program, and build a sisterhood of Baltimore moms who support each other and their children. The collective impact we can have in ensuring economic mobility for these women and their families is profound.”
Jeremiah Program Baltimore launched in 2022 to help serve single mothers and their families in the community. Over 45 percent of families in Baltimore are headed by a single mom, and 31.1 percent of female-headed households in Baltimore City live below the poverty line.
About Jeremiah Program: Jeremiah Program (JP) is a national organization whose mission is to disrupt the cycle of poverty for single mothers and their children, two generations at a time. By investing simultaneously in a mother’s vision for her personal and professional goals and the education of her children, she simultaneously reauthors her family’s outcome as well her community’s — proof points matter. In 2022, JP supported 1,100 moms and children across nine cities in Austin, TX; Baltimore, MD; Boston, MA; Brooklyn, NY; Fargo, ND-Moorhead, MN; Las Vegas, NV; Minneapolis, MN; Rochester, MN; and St. Paul, MN.
