Two-Generation Approach

One of the things that makes Jeremiah Program so unique is our commitment to centering the whole family through our two-generation framework.
A 2-gen approach builds family well-being by simultaneously working with children and their parents. Families are the experts and we work with them to create a support structure that addresses their unique challenges to achieving economic mobility.
JP’s five core pillars are anchored by personalized coaching to form a holistic, two-generational model.
Our work
Jeremiah Program’s Core Pillars
Through our holistic two-generation approach, single moms have the support to complete a college degree, chart their career path, and invest in their children’s education and social-emotional development.

COLLEGE ACCESS + CAREER SUPPORT
Mothers in JP regularly meet with a family coach, working to set educational goals and choose a career-track path. This individualized coaching increases college retention, career readiness, and long-term economic prosperity.

QUALITY EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION
High-quality early learning sets children up for long-term success. We provide education for children up to age 5 in our on-site Child Development Centers at our residential campuses and connect families to quality early childhood programs in the community at our off-campus models.

SAFE + AFFORDABLE HOUSING
Housing enables mothers and their children to grow as families, succeed as students, and prepare for a career. We offer safe and affordable housing in our five residential campuses and in our off-campus models, we work with community partners to ensure that each family has secured safe housing.

EMPOWERMENT & LEADERSHIP TRAINING
Empowerment training is a 12-week course that is an admissions requirement for JP. The course helps moms combat stigmas often placed on single moms, set boundaries and goals, and build a powerful community of single moms from across the country.

SUPPORTIVE COMMUNITY
Being a single mom can feel incredibly isolating. The JP sisterhood is a supportive and restorative community that allows moms to engage with other women experiencing the same challenges.
jp’s theory of change
Do. Foster. Influence.
Over a third of parenting households are single-parent led — and 80% of those are led by single mothers. This is a powerful coalition.
DO.
Partner with single mothers who are motivated to pursue a college degree in pursuit of economic mobility while ensuring their children are also on their own path to generational prosperity.

FOSTER.
Build the largest coalition of single mothers who are betting on themselves and each other — while harnessing their individual and collective power to champion policies that make economic mobility possible for all low-income families.

INFLUENCE.
Invest in narrative infrastructure to reframe what is possible for single mothers and their children by amplifying their stories, elevating best practices, and championing public policy — helping grow the chorus of voices committed to making it happen.
