We Do Nothing Alone

JP President and CEO Chastity Lord reflects on the JP community’s belief that great moms and their children deserve the opportunity to thrive.

There are visible and invisible hands guiding each of us in this journey we call life. We need each other to survive and to thrive. We do nothing alone.

I recently read that one’s net worth should not be determined by their network, but often it is.

Our ability to weather the rising gas and food prices or the days off work due to a sick child or parent is determined by the size of the holes in our safety net. Our safety net is designed by the composition of our network and our community, which ultimately determines access to resources and the financial Band-Aids necessary to heal the bumps and bruises of the unexpected. We do nothing alone.

There is something beautiful about the universal nature of love, friendship, and laughter, which all healthy communities and networks need to survive and to thrive. Unfortunately, that isn’t true for access to basic needs like quality childcare, great public schools, safe and affordable housing, and living wages — also needed for communities and networks to survive and to thrive.

In 2022, JP supported over 1,000 moms and children on their journeys to pursuing economic mobility and stronger safety nets for their families. At times the journey can feel lonely, but we find strength in the visible and invisible hands guiding and championing our belief that great moms and their children deserve the opportunity to not only survive but to thrive.

We all have individual roles to play, but there is power in the collective. Our moms are not doing it alone and neither is JP. Thank you.
